F A Q
Is it safe?
If you go to a professional tattoo shop that has all the proper equipment and set-up in a sterile environment, then yes. You are always free and ENCOURAGED to do some research about what to expect. If you have any doubts dont hesitate to ask the artist about it. If it doesnt seem right, then DONT get it done. A professional artist will always make sure that the environment is sterile and proper preparations are done before he/she begins. Dont hesitate to ask the shop about the safety policies and procedures.
What are your sterilization policies?
All needles/tubes come in a disposable pre-sterlized package and are NOT opened til the client is ready, then they are opened infront of the client and then properly placed in the machines. Once the tattoo is finished the needles/tubes are disposed of into a sharps biohazard container. Equipment/area is prepared with proper plastic/materials. Proper percaution is used to prevent cross-contamination with equipment/area etc. All areas and equipment are also disinfected/cleaned between clients, then properly prepared again.
Does it really hurt?
Yes, it does hurt, but how much is up to the pain threshold of the individual. Usually your body produces its own "pain killers" and the pain tends to ease up a bit. The pain is because there are needles rapidly poking at your skin...Why shouldnt this hurt?
With that respect, the area inwhich you intend to have the tattoo placed will also determine how much pain is given, for example, the closer to bones usually hurts more, even the underside of your wrists, lower back etc.
Certain types of needles also contribute. From others I have heard that the outline is usually what hurts the most...I agree with that one. Either way I dont say that to discourage from getting one. Your body might surprise you. If else, its possible to take some Tylenol (NO ASPIRIN PRODUCTS). Aspirin causes excessive bleeding and will slow down the healing process.
What areas hurt more?
I would have to say that on a scale of 1 - 10 (1 being very sensitive), the following is an "ideal" list of sensitive areas...
- Gential Area = 1
- Ribs = 2
- Sternum = 2
- Head = 2
- Ankles = 2
- Hands = 3
- Feet = 3
- Groin = 4
- Arm (under) = 4
- Lower back = 5
- Neck = 6
- Calves = 7
- Thighs = 8
- Shoulder (blades) = 8
- Arms (upper) = 9
- Forearms = 9
- Rear-end = 10
How old do you have to be to get a tattoo?
As far as laws in MN, you must be 18 to get a tattoo. Elsewhere most places require the client to be 18 years old also. JC's will NOT tattoo a minor, so do not ask! Not even if there is parental conscent. Sorry!
Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are always appreciated. There is a $50 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit required upon appoint setting. The $50 will be deducted from the final price of the tattoo. I accept cash only, no checks, or money orders. I am currently working on receiving equipment so that I may accept credit cards.
Can I cancel my appointment?
If you must reschedule, you must let me know at least 1 business days ahead of time for your deposit to be transferred to your new appointment date. If you do not give a 1 business days' notice, you will forfeit your deposit, then the next time you call for an appointment, you will be required to prepay the full tattoo payment ahead of time.
I currently work by appointment only. When appoinments are cancelled at the last minute or you dont show up for an appointment, I am out that money. Tattooing is my job and I have bills to pay and mouths to feed. Having a deposit compensated me in case you back out without giving me enough notice to fill your time slot.
